Nearly every child has kept guinea pigs or cavies as pets. Most parents liked the idea of an easy-to-keep pet for their kids – one that would teach them the responsibility of caring for a pet without too much effort. One of the most important tips anyone can teach a child with a pet is to love and care for it throughout its entire life. So many times a child views as a pet as a novelty and then they just start neglecting it. Guinea pigs can live to be about 5 years old if you look after them properly. These little rodents can’t produce vitamin C, so they require a healthy diet of orchard grass and fruits high in vitamin C. Make sure your guinea pig has a nice spacious cage, is kept indoors and provide him with fresh paper regularly for his bedding. Remember that cavies as pets are an excellent idea, but only when human interaction is provided, they receive lots of love and good care as well as grooming. Your reward will be a healthy, happy entertaining little rodent. If you’re ever in California drop in to meet Chipper the largest rodent in the world!
